Artist Demo Thurs May 8th 3:30 pm

Meet artist Meredith Young on Thursday May 8th.  Meredith will demonstrate how she makes her uncanny collection of Jewelry from 3:30 to 5:00pm at Studio 12!  Shop for something cool for your Mom and give a gift that Mother Earth would approve of!

As the saying goes, one mans trash is another man’s treasure or in the case of artist Meredith Young’s jewelry one man’s trash is every women’s treasure! A popular new line of jewelry at Studio 12  is made, not from precious metals or semi-precious stones but the not so precious stuff you find in your garbage can.

Artist Meredith Young saw trash in a whole new light and has made us want it dangling form our throats and ears every since! Meredith received a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from Maine College of Art, creating jewelry has been her passion for over 15 years. She is always looking for inspiration in common objects such as the Arizona Tea can that was the inspiration for her current line of work.

Meredith says: “While trolling the grocery store I had an ah ha moment in the soda aisle. All the pretty patterns and colors… wow! So I started playing with things I had from other projects and voila! A new “green” jewelry idea was taking shape.

Meredith’s necklaces and earrings are made from recycled soda, beer, iced tea and juice cans. Each “petal” is individually cut and layered to create a three dimensional flower. Then it is secured in the center and topped with a clear faceted rhinestone. Earrings dangle on sterling silver ear wires. Necklaces hang on an 18″ shiny silver colored metal ball chain that is nestled into a tiny handmade envelope made from paper grocery bags.

Meredith Young  called the Outer Banks of North Carolina her home for over 13 years until re-locating to West Virginia, to assist her ailing parents.

We welcome Meredith to Studio 12 on Thursday May 8th when she will demonstrate how she creates her uncanny collection from 3:30 to 5:00pm!
