12 years strong, Carolyn and Gary Schena's Studio 12 continues to be a slice of peace in a world where everything is at flux. At Studio 12 families, just like the Schena's can take a break from the beach and the chaos of life to and have the excitement of discovering the artist within!
Carolyn's background in art and education, has helped her in the development of her line of glass fusion works as well as paintings and jewelry. Gary has honed his skills on the pottery wheel to create both decorative and functional art pieces, which were recently honored at the Molly Fearing Art Show with an excellence award from the Dare County Arts Council. In addition to being a talented potter Gary continues to work as a CPA in his own accounting business.
The Schena's dedication to their art has culminated in a few awards including two accolades from the Dare County Arts Council and being selected to represent N.C. in designing a Christmas Tree ornament for the National Christmas Tree lighting Ceremony in Washington, DC. The Schena's chose to move to the Outer Banks in 2004, re-locating from their home state of New York after being struck by the beauty of Hatteras Island. They share their studio with one adorable daughter and several shy porch cats!
